American pilot Ethan Guo has been released from a Chilean air base in Antarctica after being detained for two months for allegedly illegally landing his plane in the country's territory.
Mr. Guo, 20, was released on Saturday and has been ordered to pay a $30,000 (£22,332) donation. He is also banned from entering Chilean territory for three years.
The young pilot and influencer is accused of having landed his plane without permission after submitting a false flight plan while undertaking a solo journey to raise funds for cancer research across all seven continents.
According to his lawyer, Jaime Barrientos Ramírez, Mr. Guo is doing pretty well at the moment.
Of course, we do not agree with the legal process opened against him, but it has already been closed with a type of dismissal, Barrientos Ramírez told CBS News.
Guo is expected to donate his penalty to childhood cancer research within 30 days and must leave the country as soon as possible.
Starting his journey at 19, Guo aims to become the youngest person to fly solo to every continent, hoping to raise $1 million (£740,300) for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
Having already visited six of the seven continents, he flew his Cessna 182Q aircraft from Punta Arenas, near the southernmost point of Chile, to King George Island. This island, claimed by Chile, is home to various international research stations.
Authorities noted he had declared a flight plan to only fly over Punta Arenas but landed on King George Island instead, which resulted in his arrest.
Initially charged with providing false information to ground control and unauthorized landing on June 29, those charges were dropped last month.
Mr. Guo hopes to resume his original mission once he can leave the Chilean military base.
