WASHINGTON (PulseWire) — The White House is set to finalize a deal concerning TikTok that assures U.S. companies will take the reins over the app’s intricate algorithm, a major component of its operational functionality. Furthermore, the agreement will assign a majority of board positions overseeing TikTok's U.S. operations to American representatives.

A key issue in the ongoing tug-of-war between the U.S. and China has revolved around control of TikTok’s highly criticized algorithm, particularly in light of concerns regarding the data privacy of American users.

Despite Congress passing legislation advocating for a TikTok ban effective January, President Trump has enabled the app to continue functioning in the U.S., as his administration has been working diligently to arrange for its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest its operations.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has stated that the tech giant Oracle will handle data and security for the popular platform, with American overseers securing 6 of the 7 planned board seats.

In a recent appearance on Fox News’ “Saturday in America”, Leavitt expressed optimism about the finality of the deal, mentioning that discussions between Trump and Xi Jinping were productive. “We are 100% confident that a deal is done,” she declared.

Leavitt underscored that “the algorithm will also be controlled by America as well,” reflecting the administration's focus on maintaining U.S. dominance over TikTok’s operational framework.

Following discussions, Trump noted that American investors are prepared and reiterated that Xi has been amenable throughout the process. Although specifics about how the algorithm will be handled remain blurred, Trump stated, “It’s all being worked out. We’re going to have very good control.”

Following the phone conversation, the Chinese government did not clarify terms regarding the anticipated sale of a controlling stake in TikTok to avert a U.S. ban. Nonetheless, Leavitt remains hopeful, stating, “Now we just need this deal to be signed, and that will be happening in the coming days.”
