Eurostar services are in turmoil as passengers confront ongoing delays and cancellations, prompted by tragic events on the LGV Nord high-speed railway line in France. The situation escalated when two individuals lost their lives on Tuesday, causing major disruptions that spilled over into Wednesday's schedule. Eurostar has advised travelers to either postpone or cancel their planned journeys, warning that numerous train services connecting London with Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam may be affected.
The issue was compounded by the theft of approximately 600 meters of copper cabling near Lille, which necessitated rerouting many trains and extending travel times. As a result, Eurostar services reported last-minute cancellations and heightened delays, particularly on routes connecting to London.
In response to the challenges, Eurostar has offered passengers the option to change their reservations without penalty or to request a full refund. "We're very sorry for the impact this is having on our customers," the company stated, while assuring that they are collaborating with French authorities and infrastructure teams to rectify the situation and ensure the resumption of services as soon as possible.
Currently, one track on the affected line has been reopened, which allows for some limited service to operate in both directions, although it is expected that full repairs will not be finalized until approximately 16:00 BST. In the meantime, water supplies have been distributed to passengers stuck on delayed trains, and the overall atmosphere at stations remains hectic. Passengers are urged to follow updates closely as Eurostar works to resolve the situation.
