In a shocking incident in East Hollywood, Los Angeles, thirty people have been injured after a car careened into a crowd waiting to enter a nightclub. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that seven individuals sustained critical injuries, with six others in serious condition, following the crash, which occurred around 2:00 AM local time on Saturday.

The investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is focusing on the possibility that the driver intentionally targeted the crowd, as eyewitnesses reported that the driver made a U-turn prior to the horrific act. When authorities arrived, bystanders had pulled the driver out of the vehicle, a Nissan Versa, and initiated a violent confrontation. In the chaos, one person allegedly discharged a firearm at the driver.

According to police reports, the vehicle first collided with a taco stand and a valet podium before plowing into the crowd of mostly women waiting at the Vermont Hollywood music venue, which was hosting a reggae and hip-hop event at the time.

Images from the scene depict debris scattered across the pavement alongside a grey car, drawing significant police presence as the investigation unfolds. A law enforcement source indicated that the driver may have been intoxicated during the incident.

Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, expressed her condolences, describing the event as a “heartbreaking tragedy.” She stated, “The hearts of Angelenos are with all of the victims impacted this morning - a full investigation into what happened is under way.” LAFD Captain Adam VanGerpen characterized the scene as chaotic, noting the courageous efforts of bystanders who rushed to assist victims.

The victims have since been transported to various hospitals and trauma centers for medical attention, while law enforcement continues its investigation into the factors surrounding this devastating event.
