In brief

The ongoing conflict in Gaza reveals a grim humanitarian crisis, with Israeli airstrikes killing at least 33 individuals and injuring over 130, primarily from a targeted attack on a shelter serving as a school. While the cease-fire in Lebanon raises hopes for peace, the situation in Gaza remains dire.

As the cease-fire in Lebanon was being finalized, renewed Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple locations in Gaza, with local health authorities reporting 33 fatalities and over 134 injuries from the latest offensives. The strikes included a devastating attack on Al-Tabin school in Gaza City, which was sheltering civilians, leaving at least 13 dead, including six women and children, according to reports from Palestinian Civil Defense. Among the casualties named were the sons of a Hamas official. The Israeli military contends that the attacks were aimed at Hamas military infrastructure, claiming intelligence gathered from captured militants led to the strikes. In addition, the military identified and killed Morad Rajoub, a Hamas combatant, in Gaza City.As violence in Gaza endures, the cease-fire accord in Lebanon has left many Gazans feeling abandoned and distressed, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showing little willingness to reach a truce in Gaza, where hostages remain in the hands of Hamas. The humanitarian situation has become increasingly critical, with more than 44,000 Gazans reported dead and over 105,000 injured during the prolonged conflict. The ongoing hostilities have driven millions from their homes, leading to widespread hunger and disease due to limited healthcare resources and supply shortages. Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal highlighted the difficulties faced in rescue efforts following the Al-Tabin school strike, citing a dire lack of fuel and support. Although donations have enabled limited recovery efforts, immense challenges remain, amplifying the urgent need for humanitarian assistance in the beleaguered territory.
