In brief

Tropical Storm Narda has developed off the coast of Mexico, with forecasts indicating it could strengthen into a hurricane within 48 hours while remaining offshore. Meanwhile, Hurricane Gabrielle has intensified into a Category 1 storm and is anticipated to undergo further strengthening as it moves toward Bermuda, impacting the surrounding areas with swells and strong winds.

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Narda has formed in the offshore waters of the eastern Pacific, located approximately 240 miles (390 kilometers) south-southeast of Zihuatanejo, Mexico. As of Sunday afternoon, Narda boasts top sustained winds of 40 mph (60 kph), and it is moving north-northwest at 10 mph (17 kph).

Forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami predict that Narda could strengthen over the next 48 hours, potentially becoming a hurricane by Tuesday. However, they note that the storm is forecasted to remain offshore, and currently, no coastal watches or warnings are in effect.

Similarly, Hurricane Gabrielle has transitioned into a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph) as it moves north-northwest, approximately 320 miles (515 kilometers) southeast of Bermuda. The hurricane center indicates that Gabrielle may undergo rapid intensification this week, raising concerns for interests in the region.

As the storms progress, meteorologists emphasize the need for vigilance, especially as Hurricane Gabrielle significantly affects the Bermuda region with large ocean swells expected to impact the Eastern Seaboard from North Carolina up to Atlantic Canada in the coming days.
