On Thursday a 15‑year‑old Ghanaian migrant, Javits Frimpong, was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, according to a statement released by the Ghanaian government on Friday. The incident, which left the teenager deceased after a hospital attempt, prompted Ghana’s foreign ministry to condemn the killing and call for a thorough investigation into the case, Xinhua reported.
Officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York visited Thomas Frimpong, father of the victim, to express sympathy and urge U.S. authorities to bring those responsible to justice, Xinhua noted. The visits were part of the government’s response to the tragedy and reflected its commitment to protecting Ghanaian citizens abroad.
Xinhua’s report added that Frimpong had moved to the United States from Ghana roughly a year before the shooting, and that the teenager was shot in the abdomen before being taken to a hospital, where he later died. The statement from the foreign ministry underscored that no suspects had been identified at the time of the release.
While no other parties have independently corroborated the circumstances, Ghana’s call for a comprehensive investigation aligns with the country’s diplomatic efforts to safeguard its nationals overseas.
