Authorities are investigating a dramatic escape of ten inmates from the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans, which may have been assisted by staff according to Sheriff Susan Hutson. The breakout occurred around midnight, with inmates discovered missing during an 8:30 AM headcount. Among the escapees, several face serious charges, including murder.
The Sheriff detailed that escapees were able to manipulate security barriers and escape through a hole they created in an interior wall, enhanced by taunting messages left behind, such as "To Easy LoL." CCTV footage revealed the moment the inmates executed their escape, prompting a significant manhunt across the city, with one inmate already caught in the French Quarter.
Fugitive Kendall Myles has been identified and recaptured using facial recognition technology after a brief pursuit by local officers. Now back at the Orleans Parish Jail, Myles faces additional charges related to the escape. The Sheriff's Office initially reported eleven escapees but later confirmed the number as ten.
As the situation escalates, New Orleans police chief Anne Kirkpatrick has labeled the escape an "urgent and serious situation" and is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The FBI and US Marshals have joined local law enforcement in the search, increasing the likelihood of recapturing the remaining inmates quickly. Authorities have also alerted the victims of previous crimes committed by the escapees, stressing the danger posed by individuals still at large.
