Italian authorities reported that a cable car accident on Thursday near Naples resulted in the deaths of four people, including two British tourists and an Israeli Arab woman. The tragedy unfolded as the cable car was just 20 seconds from its destination on the scenic plateau of Monte Faito, renowned for its stunning views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The victims were identified as Elaine Margaret Winn and Graeme Derek Winn from Britain and Janan Suleiman, an Israeli citizen. Regrettably, Janan's brother, Thabet Suleiman, was the only survivor, currently hospitalized with critical injuries in Naples. Mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, Luigi Vicinanza, described the incident as "tragic," expressing condolences while preparing for the arrival of the victim's family members later on.The cable car's descent ended abruptly following the snapping of a traction cable, which hindered both the cabin close to the mountaintop and another car at the base station. Nine individuals trapped in the lower cabin were safely evacuated by local fire crews with the use of harnesses. In light of the incident, prosecutors in Naples have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fatal crash.
