French authorities have detained a man on suspicion of murder following the unsettling discovery of four bodies in the Seine River, just south-east of Paris. The investigation began when a passer-by alerted police to a body found near a bridge in the suburb of Choisy-le-Roi on August 13. Subsequent searches revealed three additional bodies submerged in the water nearby.
According to prosecutors, one of the deceased victims had been strangled, while another showed signs of violent injuries. The first body, identified as a local man aged 40, appeared to have been in the water for only a brief period. However, the other three victims were in an advanced stage of decomposition.
While the man in custody is being questioned regarding the murders, authorities have not released detailed information about the suspect or the nature of the investigations concerning the multiple victims. Prosecutors have noted that they currently see no connections between the individuals, indicating that they may have been disposed of in different locations along the river before being carried downstream to the bridge in Choisy-le-Roi. As the investigation unfolds, local residents and officials are left grappling with the shock of this tragic incident in their community.
