At approximately 12:20 PM, a question related to mass shootings in context of transgender Americans was posed to Kirk. His response was interrupted by a gunshot, believed to have originated from the rooftop of a nearby building. Kirk collapsed, visibly wounded and bleeding profusely as chaos ensued and attendees fled.

As of now, no one has been arrested. Authorities have not disclosed a suspect's name or motive. However, public safety officials indicated that the gunman likely appeared to be of college age and blended in well with other students. Investigators have released photos of a man dressed in black, looking for public assistance in identifying him.
