In brief

Ukrainian long‑range drones struck two Wildberries warehouses, the largest Russian online retailer, in Tambov and Elektrostal. The attacks killed eight people and injured 62, with Vodik Putin condemning the attacks while Ukraine cites retaliation for recent Russian strikes. Those in the Tambov region reported 28 drones downed, while the Elektrostal site suffered 48 drone impacts, also aligning with Ukraine’s intensified drone campaign aimed at Russian energy infrastructure. The incident highlights the growing risk to civilian logistics facilities as the war continues.

Eight people were killed and 62 injured after Ukrainian drones struck two of Russia's largest online retailer Wildberries warehouses, Russian officials announced on Tuesday night.

The first strike hit a Tambov warehouse, 475 km south‑east of Moscow, where seven deaths and 25 injuries were reported. A second attack on an Elektrostal, a city in the Moscow region, caused one fatality and 37 injuries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the drones targeted “major logistics facilities” that had supplied components for Ukraine’s own drone production and navigation systems. He also noted additional strikes on targets in the Sea of Azov, the Black Sea and the Russian‑annexed Crimea.

Unverified footage shows flames erupting from the vast building, black smoke billowing into the night sky, and dozens of workers fleeing into a nearby car park as explosions continued.

Tambov governor Evgeniy Pervyshov posted on Telegram that “seven night‑shift workers died on the spot,” and that 28 drones were shot down during the approach. He added that 25 people were injured, with most suffering shrapnel wounds.

Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov reported eight injured firefighters from the Elektrostal strike were in serious condition, and that 48 drones were downed overnight. He noted a falling drone also struck a local oil depot, describing the incident as having “the most serious consequences”.

Wildberries CEO Tatyana Kim, a noted Russian billionaire, said it was a “terrible night” for both Russia and the company itself.

Ukraine has been escalating long‑range drone attacks on Russia’s critical energy infrastructure, leading to widespread fuel shortages. Kyiv warned that nearly 43 % of Russia’s oil‑refining capacity was “disabled” while Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted in July that fuel shortages stemmed from the attacks and signed a law to boost domestic fuel supplies.
