Ukrainian‑fired drone strikes Russian beach, killing seven, 40 injured
A drone, believed to have been fired from Ukraine, crashed into a bustling beach on the Black Sea near the village of Arkhipo‑Osipovka in the Krasnodar region. Authorities say the impact killed seven people, including three children, and left ten or more wounded, with 17 of the injured transported to hospital.
The incident was caught on camera by social‑media users, who posted footage that shows the drone racing past a cliff before it detonated in a blaze on the shoreline. Some witnesses reported hearing gunfire—possibly from air‑defence forces—just before the explosion, suggesting the drone may have been targeted or jammed.
Krasnodar governor Veniamin Kondratyev condemned the strike as a deliberate attack on civilians and called it a “deliberate strike on civilians”. Ukraine has yet to issue a statement, and both sides deny deliberately targeting people.
The beach resort, a popular holiday spot for Russians due to its warm climate and extensive tourist facilities, was oblivious to the threat; no sirens were heard at the time of the attack. A holidaymaker recounted, “We covered ourselves with sun‑loungers and just didn’t see where it exploded.” Another said, “I heard a gunburst, like a machine gun, followed by an explosion.” A third claimed, “This all happened in front of my children, and my child is having a nervous breakdown.”
The incident adds to a series of attacks that have struck Russian towns and cities, with Ukraine reportedly conducting long‑range strikes against infrastructure, while Russia has targeted residential areas since the 2022 invasion. As the war rages on, civilians in both countries continue to bear the brunt of the hostilities.
