Ukraine claims strike on Russian refinery and Engels airfield
Late Sunday night Ukrainian forces claimed strikes deep inside Russia. Reports say the billion‑dollar Saratov oil refinery and the Engels airfield, used for strategic aviation, were damaged by drone strikes.
Russian authorities confirmed eight people were killed, and 635 drones were shot down or intercepted over the morning. The latest raid also hit an oil depot in Kaluga and a drone launch site in Bryansk.
In addition to the refinery, the Kremlin highlighted a strike on a Wildberries warehouse, labeling the damage as yet another terrorist act. The governor of Samara said no casualties were recorded.
Moscow also said its forces attacked two Ukrainian ports and two boats in the Black Sea overnight, while Ukraine later reported a single casualty from a Russian strike near Kharkiv.
Both sides have intensified attacks on major cities, energy facilities and commercial warehouses. The front line remains largely static, and US‑led mediation trials have yet to yield breakthroughs.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strikes our long‑range sanctions against assets that fund Moscow’s war effort, underscoring the enduring cost of supply‑chain disruption in the conflict.
