On Tuesday morning, a gunman opened fire on a crowd outside the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Manisa, Turkey. Eleven students were wounded, with two patients treated as critical in nearby hospitals.
Within minutes police seized a 15‑year‑old suspect—a student at the school—as well as his mother, father, and grandfather, the latter said to have owned the shotgun seized from the scene.
CCTV footage captured the suspect walking through empty streets, checking the shotgun he carried, and later fleeing from the site while still holding the weapon.
Turkey’s justice minister, Akın Gürlek, confirmed the arrests and noted the suspect’s detention under Turkish law, which requires him to appear before a court before formal arrest.
The incident follows two deadly school attacks that occurred in April earlier this year, which galvanized the nation to tighten gun‑control measures in the upcoming academic year.
Education officials expressed deep sorrow, saying the tragedy "deeply saddened our nation" and dispatched three national investigators to Manisa to support the ongoing investigation.
