Trump Threatens to Bomb Oman Over Iran Strait Talks

President Donald Trump allegedly told a Fox News reporter that the United States would bomb Oman if it interfered with U.S. negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for Iranian vessels. The statement was made during a phone call on Monday, just as the 60‑day memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Washington and Tehran was set to expire.

According to the reporter, Trump also claimed that he had a direct back‑channel with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC spokesperson denied such talks, calling Trump’s assertion a “fantasy.” Iranian officials, however, said they were close to finalising a deal on shipping through the strait and were awaiting compensation at a rate between 5% and 7% of cargo prices.

Oman, which maintains a neutral stance in the conflict, has suffered a handful of Iranian air strikes since the war began. The country has meanwhile been a key facilitator in the talks and has described the negotiations with Iran as “positive.”

The U.S. has repeatedly highlighted its cease‑fire agreement with Iran, which collapsed as the cease‑fire terminated. The new threat from Trump comes as U.S. officials push for a permanent end to the conflict and a potential new assault on Iran, with a call to “bomb the shit out of Iraq” if necessary.

Trump’s remarks about a direct military strike against Oman deepen an already tense diplomatic environment, raising concerns that the middle‑east crisis could intensify further while the MoU expires in the coming days.
