Trump Administration Accuses Banned Media of 'Falsehoods' Ahead of Court Hearing
The US Justice Department has filed documents charging CNN, Politico and MS NOW—who were recently barred from the White House—with "trafficking in verifiable falsehoods" that endangered national security.
President Donald Trump lifted the ban last week, accusing the outlets of spreading "fake news". Their reporters lost passes and were denied building access, prompting the three organizations to sue for unconstitutional treatment.
A judge will determine on Wednesday whether to temporarily lift the ban, as the case proceeds to a full hearing. The DOJ’s filing cited reports on White House construction, a security bunker, a new ballroom and an internal leak investigation.
The DOJ reminded that "access to the White House is a privilege, not a right" and insisted the ban does not violate the First Amendment. The media argued that the revocation without notice or process undermines press freedom and public interest.
In response, major TV networks withdrew from the White House pool—a shared video and photo resource—protesting the ban. Shortly after, the White House launched its own 24‑hour stream, Trump TV, which posts clips featuring the president.
