The Ukrainian security service (SBU) has confirmed that Anastasiia Berezovska, 39, has been found dead in Ukraine. The woman was the prime suspect in a parcel bombing that damaged the entrance hall of an apartment building in Monaco and left a sanctioned Ukrainian multi‑millionaire and his family wounded.
Berezovska was believed to have fled Monaco after planting the bomb on 29 June. Authorities launched a cross‑border manhunt that had her listed on a Red Alert by Interpol, and she was on the radar in Belgium, France and Italy.
The SBU reports that her body was discovered in Ukraine with gunshot wounds to the head. Two men, including a current officer of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, have been detained on suspicion of murder.
The case has evolved from an international bomb investigation to an internal security inquiry, with Ukrainian officials scrambling to determine whether the killing was a planned retaliatory act or a domestic dispute gone violent.
