The Malaysian‑born, Filipino‑American vocalist announced she will temporarily withdraw from the girl group Katseye so she can focus on her mental‑health recovery, according to a statement from HYBE × Geffen Records. The move comes less than six months after co‑member Manon Bannerman also took a hiatus for her own wellbeing.

“Sophia will be temporarily unable to participate in upcoming promotional activities,” the label read, adding that she is receiving medical advice and “the utmost support” as she rests and receives ongoing care. The official said a reassessment of her status will occur in September.

Laforteza clarified via Instagram that she chose this path because health came first. She pledged to heal properly and return stronger, a sentiment that echoed among fans who have long campaigned to protect musicians from online abuse. The group now will perform events with four remaining members.

The group launched in 2023, garnering global hits such as Gnarly, Pinky Up and Gabriela, and earned two Grammy nominations in 2025. Their popularity has also drawn threats, with the label noting the band has received thousands of death threats since their debut.
