Shock Jock Kyle Sandilands Secures $12 m Settlement After Radio Contract Turmoil

Kyle Sandilands, the high‑profile Australian radio host known for his blunt on‑air style, has won a $12 million payout from ARN Media following a lawsuit over the early termination of his ten‑year contract.

The dispute began in March when Sandilands was dismissed from the flagship ‘Kyle and Jackie O’ breakfast show after a week‑long argument with co‑host Jackie “O” Henderson, who accused him of bullying behaviour. ARN’s executive team, citing ‘serious misconduct’, cancelled the lucrative contract that the pair had been signed to for a decade.

Sandilands sued ARN for wrongful termination, demanding compensation of $85 million. A settlement was announced on Wednesday, with the network agreeing to a $12.09 million cash payment and $1.5 million worth of advertising across its platforms spread over three years.

If the payout is a partial win, the terms include a non‑compete clause that bars Sandilands from working for any ARN competitors until the following March. ARN will also claim a 19.9% share of any independent media ventures he pursues for three years.

Henderson, meanwhile, remains in court suing ARN over the abrupt contract cancellation, and her legal action is still underway. The fallout from the on‑air clash also led to a temporary shutdown of the show, followed by claims that ARN staff celebrated the end of the expensive partnership.

For listeners, the news may signal a shift in Sydney’s breakfast radio landscape as the ‘Kyle and Jackie O’ brand that once dominated ratings collapses. The case highlights the high stakes of lucrative contracts, talent disputes, and the legal ramifications that can arise when the industry’s biggest names clash.
