Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan is currently recuperating in a Mumbai hospital after being stabbed multiple times at his home during a violent intrusion that occurred early Thursday morning, according to local law enforcement. The 54-year-old actor sustained severe wounds, including a significant injury to his spinal cord and deep cuts on his arm and neck.
The attack transpired in the upscale Bandra area, where an unidentified intruder reportedly used a fire escape to gain entry into Khan's residence. The police suspect the stabbing was an attempt to commit burglary, and they are actively pursuing a suspect identified in connection with the case, as stated by deputy commissioner Dixit Gedam.
Following the incident, Khan underwent surgery to repair damage caused by the knife and to address leaking spinal fluid. Doctors at Lilavati Hospital reported that he is in stable condition and on the mend.
Khan’s extensive acting career spans over three decades, and he is known for a versatile portfolio, ranging from lighthearted characters to darker roles. He comes from a prominent family, with his mother being the famed actress Sharmila Tagore and his father, a royal figure and former captain of the Indian cricket team, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. He is also married to actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their daughter, Sara Ali Khan, is making a name for herself in the industry.
News of the attack on Khan prompted swift reactions from political circles, with opposition leaders criticizing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for the deteriorating security situation in Mumbai. MP Priyanka Chaturvedi raised concerns on social media, asking, “If celebrities are not safe then who in Mumbai is?”
Actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt echoed those sentiments, calling for greater police presence in the area, highlighting a sense of insecurity among residents and high-profile individuals alike. This incident follows other alarming events, including an exchange of gunfire outside fellow star Salman Khan's home last July, and a brazen assassination of a former state minister in Bandra last October.
The police investigation continues as representatives for Khan urge both fans and the media for patience during this challenging time.
