British right‑wing political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been removed from the United States and sent back to his homeland after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Yiannopoulos, 41, a former editor of Breitbart News and once a political aide to rapper Kanye West, was arrested on 27 August after arriving at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that he is “an illegal alien from the United Kingdom” and that he has been sent “back to his home country”.

The US immigration authorities stated that Yiannopoulos “chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws.” He first entered the United States in May 2019 and had remained since, a fact that prompted his apprehension.

Yiannopoulos, known for self‑identifying as a “most fabulous supervillain on the internet”, has repeatedly courted controversy with statements on transgender people, Muslims, Black Lives Matter, feminists, and gay people. Despite identifying as gay himself, he now calls himself an "ex‑gay".

Politically, he was an early supporter of Donald Trump in 2016, headlining the “Gays for Trump” event at the Republican National Convention. He later became a critic of Trump, yet still expressed support for the former president’s agenda, writing on X in March that Trump had “lost his way, bought off by foreign interests.”
Throughout his career, Yiannopoulos has worked for prominent far‑right figures, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former Republican congresswoman who fell out with Trump.
