A tragedy unfolded in Chihuahua, Mexico, where a federal immigration agent, Luis Alberto Olivas García, was killed by a group of migrants at a checkpoint on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred after the agent requested to see their identification papers. The National Migration Institute confirmed the attack, which took place approximately 30 miles south of Ciudad Juárez, near the border with El Paso, Texas.Officials provided varying reports regarding the number of suspects apprehended. While national sources indicated that a total of three migrants—two from Venezuela and one from Colombia—were arrested, Jorge Armendáriz, a spokesman with the Chihuahua security ministry, stated that only two Venezuelan men were in custody. By the evening of the attack, no formal charges had been filed against the detainees.Preliminary investigations revealed that García sustained multiple injuries, possibly from a sharp weapon, along with a head wound likely inflicted by a rock. Earlier that day, García had been honored for his 30 years of dedicated service. The Colombian migration authorities are currently investigating the incident, while Venezuelan officials have yet to comment on the matter.
