In brief

In a bold move that underscores the ongoing tensions in the region, Ukraine launched extensive drone strikes across several areas in Russia early on Tuesday, local officials reported. This action represents one of the largest offensives in Ukraine's strategic efforts to weaken Russia's military capabilities on its home soil.

The overnight drone attacks occurred mainly in southwestern Russia, with reports of explosions in the Bryansk border region, and further targets identified in Saratov and Tula, as confirmed by local authorities. While the Ukrainian military refrained from commenting, the Ukraine Center for Strategic Communications noted that seven regions in Russia faced attacks, which focused on military production facilities along with oil and gas installations. These assaults prompted swift airspace restrictions for at least six cities, including Saratov and Engels, which experienced the drone strikes directly. Saratov region governor Roman V. Busargin detailed the damages on social media, noting that while air defenses had intercepted many drones, the cities still suffered from significant UAV attacks, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
