Eight passengers sustained injuries on a Ryanair flight that had to divert to an airport in southern Germany due to severe turbulence caused by adverse weather conditions, as reported by local police. The turbulence incident occurred on Wednesday evening, with a two-year-old child reported to have bruises and a woman suffering a head injury among those affected.
Three individuals were transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment, while others were treated on the scene by medical personnel. In response to the emergency, Ryanair publicly apologized to passengers, noting that the captain, who was operating a flight from Berlin to Milan, preemptively contacted medical teams before landing.
The flight was redirected to Memmingen Airport, located west of Munich, as local weather conditions prevented landing at the originally scheduled Munich Airport. According to police, the aircraft made a safe landing at 20:44 local time (18:44 GMT) without further complications.
Following the flight, the Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority did not allow for an onward flight that same evening, but Ryanair promptly arranged alternative transport to Milan for passengers and scheduled a replacement flight for the following morning. In total, there were 179 passengers and six crew members on board, with the ages of those injured ranging from two to 59. All passengers were thoroughly checked for injuries as a precautionary measure.
