TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities continue to investigate the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing after not attending church on January 31. This past weekend, law enforcement officials returned to her Arizona neighborhood, following the receipt of ransom notes demanding money for her safe return, with a looming deadline for Monday.
Guthrie, the mother of 'Today' show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for over a week, prompting widespread support and concern. Savannah Guthrie, in an emotional video plea posted Saturday, urged the abductors to return her mother, stating, We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.
As the investigation enters its second week, the sheriff's department has not yet identified suspects or vehicles linked to the case. They have confirmed, however, that DNA evidence from blood found on Nancy Guthrie's porch matched her profile.
Adding urgency, the alleged ransom notes indicated her well-being is compromised, leading to heightened fears for her health, as she requires daily medication and has a pacemaker. Detectives have been working tirelessly on the case, sifting through numerous tips fueled by public interest and online discussions on social media, while community members have been seen supporting the Guthrie family outside their residence.
Officials have received multiple ransom letters, with demands made, but have not confirmed their credibility. Despite the challenges, the department remains commitment to thoroughly investigating all leads, hoping for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
