An ICE agent fired multiple rounds at a parked car in the Bronx on Thursday, shooting 28‑year‑old Oscar Belgal and endangering his five‑year‑old son.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the agent discharged his weapon while attempting to arrest a “criminal illegal alien.” Belgal, from the Dominican Republic, was taken to a local hospital and has survived the shooting.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the act, calling it an “unconscionable and incredibly serious situation” and urged President Trump to halt ICE enforcement in the city. Governor Kathy Hochul said she had communicated outrage to the President and demanded the release of body‑camera footage.

The incident follows prior high‑profile ICE shootings, including the death of Renee Good in Minneapolis in January. Protesters gathered outside the scene late Thursday, chanting “we want justice” and “ICE off our streets now.”
