Germany says Russia behind Leipzig airport drone attack
A drone carrying an explosive device was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August, close to Ukrainian cargo planes. The device did not detonate because the detonator was faulty, and investigators suspect a second drone collided with a cargo aircraft nearby.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the incident followed the “well‑established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe” and that Germany might be targeted again. Security experts had speculated Russian involvement before the Ministry’s statement; Russia has denied any role.
