NEW YORK (PulseWire.News) — Released from prison after serving a mere 84 days of a seven-year sentence for campaign fraud, former U.S. Representative George Santos expressed a sense of humility about his experience behind bars. In an interview with CNN, he responded to critics upset over former President Donald Trump's decision to grant him clemency.

Santos quipped, I'm pretty confident if President Trump had pardoned Jesus Christ off the cross, he would have had critics. His conviction stemmed from pleading guilty to fraud and identity theft in 2022, after running on a fabricated life story as a Wall Street developer.

Showing what he described as a new outlook on life, Santos stated he consumed a very large slice of humble pie during his prison time, promising to make amends, though he hesitated on whether he would repay defrauded campaign donors, saying he would do so only if legally required.

Despite facing criticism, he maintained that he is dedicated to moving forward positively. In discussing his release, Santos pointed to other presidential clemency acts that had drawn controversy, noting the clemency granted to President Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

On his journey post-prison, Santos has also returned to creating personalized videos for fans on Cameo, illustrating his determination to reestablish himself in the public eye.
