More than 900 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza this year despite the ceasefire that was declared on 10 October, says the territory’s Hamas‑run Ministry of Health. Those figures bring the total number of dead in the Strip since the ceasefire to over 1,300, including 301 children.
The ceasefire was part of US President Donald Trump’s 20‑point peace plan, which called for a suspension of all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment. Yet BBC Verify has analysed dozens of videos showing Israeli strikes on a beachside café in the port area, tents sheltering displaced people, and a funeral procession in central Gaza, all occurring after the ceasefire.
In the months of April to August, the Ministry recorded more than 100 deaths each month, with July the highest at 152 people killed, including 21 children. The Ministry attributes these deaths directly to Israeli military action but does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
The IDF disputes the Ministry’s numbers, stating that it operates in a precise manner to remove threats and protect Israeli civilians, and that it mitigates civilian harm to the greatest extent possible. However, the UN and independent research groups, such as Airwars, find the Ministry’s data reliable and consistent with their own tracking of incidents.
UNICEF reports more than 300 children have been killed since the ceasefire, describing the figure as “absurd and devastating.” The organization and other humanitarian agencies have also documented Israeli strikes on their workers, including the killing of two water truck drivers contracted by UNICEF in April.
