CARBONDALE, Kan. (AP) — Four law enforcement officers were shot Saturday morning while responding to a residence in a rural area south of Topeka, Kansas. The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. when three Osage County sheriff’s deputies and one Kansas Highway Patrol trooper were engaged in a domestic violence situation. Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Melissa Underwood revealed that their conditions are 'still very fluid'. Meanwhile, a male suspect was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds, and another male involved was transferred to a hospital in stable condition.
Authorities reported that deputies and troopers had been on the scene for several minutes before gunfire erupted. The response to the shooting drew multiple law enforcement agencies to the area. The incident took place in a rural region close to U.S. Highway 75, and Underwood emphasized that there is currently no active threat to the public.}
