WILMINGTON, Del. – William Stevenson, 77, the former husband of Jill Biden, has been charged with the first-degree murder of his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64, who died on December 28. Delaware Attorney General's spokesperson Caroline Harrison confirmed the charges against Stevenson, who remains in custody after failing to post a $500,000 bail.
Authorities were called to the couple's Wilmington residence late at night due to a reported domestic dispute. Upon arrival, they found Linda unresponsive in the living room, and attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.
Linda Stevenson was a bookkeeping business owner and a devoted mother and grandmother, remembered fondly as a Philadelphia Eagles fan. The investigation leading to her husband's arrest spanned several weeks and culminated in a grand jury indictment. It remains unclear if Stevenson has secured legal representation.
In a past interview, Stevenson had expressed derogatory sentiments about his ex-wife, referring to their divorce as contentious, labeling her as “bitter” and “nasty.” Following the split in 1975, Jill Biden married U.S. Senator Joe Biden in 1977, who served as President from January 2021 to January 2025. \
