Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is now on the fast track to becoming history's first trillionaire after shareholders voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new pay package that could make that possible. The vote occurred in Austin, Texas, where over 75% of shareholders supported the plan following a heated debate surrounding Musk’s management of the company.

The proposal involves Musk receiving stock worth $1 trillion provided he meets ambitious performance targets in the next decade, which includes significantly ramping up production and enhancing the company’s market value.

Despite Tesla’s recent downturns in sales and market share, Musk's influence remains strong amongst investors. He has faced criticism for his off-business activities and public comments, yet many believe in his capability to return Tesla to a position of dominance.

The plan necessitates Musk to increase Tesla's value nearly sixfold while delivering 20 million electric vehicles over the next ten years, alongside deploying more than 1 million humanoid robots—a significant jump for the company that may face vigorous competition in the market.

After the vote, Musk expressed confidence in his shareholders and urged them to hold on to their Tesla stocks. The approval signals a moment of faith in Musk’s leadership, despite the skepticism from major investment firms.

While some investors raised concerns about the compensation's scale and the potential impact of Musk's controversial behavior, supporters maintained that the rewards are necessary to keep him focused on Tesla's growth trajectory toward innovative AI-powered solutions.
