RSF paramilitary drone strike

A drone strike by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 41 people, including women and children, in a displaced persons camp in the Blue Nile region near Ethiopia, a rights group says.

The attack, which hit the Abu Shandi camp in the state’s Abu Shandi area, was reported on Friday by the Emergency Lawyers group. UN humanitarian agency OCHA expressed its horror and called the incident “appalling,” noting the camp had been under “sustained attack” in recent weeks.

The ongoing power struggle between Sudan’s army and the RSF, which began in 2023, has already killed hundreds of thousands and displaced more than 14 million. The war has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with millions in need of medical aid.

While the army controls much of central and eastern Sudan, the RSF is headquartered in western Darfur and holds territories in the south. Both sides use drone attacks as a strategic tool, further endangering civilians.
