Bus Crash on Egypt’s Red Sea Coast Claims 22 Lives

A bus plunged into the dusty plain between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba on Wednesday morning, killing at least 22 people and leaving 28 injured. The accident has not yet been investigated.

Health ministry officials said the crash took place on a rough route popular among tourists and that up to ten Jordanian nationals were among the dead. They also noted that the number of passengers on board remains unclear.

“All injured are now receiving treatment in three different hospitals,” the ministry said in a statement. The case comes amid a series of fatal road incidents in Egypt, where authorities reported almost 6,000 deaths last year.

Reckless driving and poor road maintenance are routinely cited as the main drivers of such accidents. Just last month, a collision between two lorries in Ismailia governorate left 18 dead and 30 injured.
