Police in California arrested a man who was seen on the grounds of Donald Trump’s golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes just ahead of the President’s fundraising dinner. The suspect was found in possession of a loaded pistol and a 16‑round magazine containing hollow‑point ammunition.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the individual “was observed walking throughout the golf course grounds taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security‑planning activities.” The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon, with plainclothes federal agents having tipped local authorities after noticing suspicious activity around 15:30 ET.
Investigators later discovered the suspect was being sought in connection with a robbery in El Segundo, about 15 miles north of the golf course. In his vehicle, police found a loaded pistol and a magazine loaded with hollow‑point bullets—an ammunition type prohibited in California, which bans magazines holding more than ten rounds.
Following the arrest, the suspect’s home in Downey was raided by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau. They uncovered an illegally modified AR‑platform rifle, a .45‑caliber pistol, body armour, high‑capacity magazines, large amounts of pistol and rifle ammunition, and several notebooks containing concerning statements.
The investigation continues, with the U.S. Secret Service uniting with local, state and federal agencies to assess potential security implications. At this stage, officials say no credible threat to the community or the President has been identified.
