Armed man arrested near Trump’s golf course ahead of visit
Government officials in California detain a 38‑year‑old man at the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes. The suspect, named Jeanine John Taele, was found carrying a loaded pistol and a 16‑round magazine containing hollow‑point ammunition, authorities say.
Los Angeles sheriff’s agents observed the individual walking across the course grounds, taking photographs, and seeming to observe security details, before confronting him and discovering the weapons. The arrest was made at about 15:30 ET (23:30 BST) on Sunday.
He is being held on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of prohibited magazine capacity. Police also note that he is wanted for a robbery in El Segundo, about 15 miles north of the golf course.
Investigators roped in the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau. A search of the suspect’s home in Downey revealed an illegally modified AR‑platform rifle, a .45 pistol, body armor, high‑capacity magazines, multiple pistol and rifle cartridges, and notebooks containing concerning remarks.
No credible threat to Trump or his guests has been identified. The investigation continues, with the Secret Service confirming they will recommend any additional charges.
The incident coincided with President Trump’s brief trip to California for a Reuters fundraising dinner at his golf course, separate from his plans to speak at a Las Vegas casino next week. Trump remains in the spotlight as the mid‑term elections approach.
