Airlink’s Saturday flyby sparks safety investigation

The flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that the lead aircraft passed less than 50 ft above the roof, a distance that could be seen as dangerously close from some angles. Airlink said the flights were conducted at the approved safety altitude and with a highly experienced crew, but the regulator emphasized that safety and security compliance remain paramount.
The flyby has been a feature at major sporting and presidential events in South Africa for years, using both military and commercial jets. The recent incident underscores the importance of rigorous safety checks before such displays.
