In brief

In an initiative to raise awareness, the Security Service of Ukraine is conducting workshops in high schools, informing students about the dangers posed by Russian intelligence agents attempting to exploit vulnerable youth.

In Lviv, a high school classroom turned into a setting for an alarming presentation led by a masked intelligence officer, aimed at targeting 16 to 17-year-olds with warnings about Russian operatives. The officer's dramatic entry, complete with a tactical uniform and a video showing a mousetrap with cash, set a serious tone for the day. The approach resembled a high-stakes version of "Scared Straight," addressing the potential dangers of recruitment through illicit offers.Ukrainian authorities are increasingly concerned about methods allegedly employed by the Russian Federal Security Service (F.S.B.), which include luring minors on social media platforms like TikTok and Telegram. The initiative follows reports of minors being incentivized to engage in sabotage efforts. During the presentation, the officer emphasized, “Criminal responsibility in Ukraine begins at 14 years of age. It’s imperative to understand that this easy money could lead to severe consequences, including legal trouble or even death.”This preventive measure comes as part of a broader commitment by Ukrainian law enforcement to safeguard youth from becoming unwitting participants in the ongoing conflict, highlighting a unique intersection of national security and adolescent vulnerability in the war-torn region.
