In brief

Pelosi, 84, suffered a hip injury during a bipartisan delegation trip marking the Battle of the Bulge's 80th anniversary.

Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been hospitalized after experiencing an unspecified injury during an official visit to Luxembourg. According to her office, reports indicate that Pelosi sustained a hip injury after tripping and falling during an event, though the spokesperson noted that some sources were unauthorized to disclose further details. At 84 years old, Pelosi is currently in the care of medical professionals, receiving what her spokesperson, Ian Krager, described as "excellent treatment." Despite her condition, Pelosi continues to work remotely from the hospital and is looking forward to returning home to the U.S. soon. Pelosi, a prominent Democratic figure who has had a remarkable political career across seven presidential administrations, still represents California in the House. After first serving as House Speaker from 2007 to 2011, she regained the role in 2019 when her party regained control. Although she resigned from the position in 2023, she was recently elected for another two-year term in the House.Pelosi was part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation that included 17 other House members, who traveled to Luxembourg to participate in events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Unfortunately, due to her injury, she will be unable to take part in the remaining events, as confirmed by her spokesperson. It is worth noting that her injury follows closely on the heels of a similar incident where outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell suffered a sprained wrist and facial cuts after falling at the U.S. Capitol.
