Russian rescue teams have discovered the wreckage of an Angara Airlines An-24 aircraft that went missing in the Amur region of the far east, approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) from its intended destination. The plane was carrying 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members when it lost contact while approaching Tynda airport after departing from Blagoveshchensk near the Chinese border.

Vasily Orlov, the regional governor of Amur, confirmed that "all necessary resources" are being utilized in the search efforts for the aircraft. Shortly after reports of the plane’s disappearance, Russia's emergencies ministry announced that a civil aviation helicopter had detected burning debris of the aircraft from the air. The aircraft was located on a hillside, as confirmed by the Amur civil defense center and reported by the Tass news agency.

Rescue services are currently en route to the crash site to provide assistance and further assess the situation following the tragic incident involving the An-24, which was on the last leg of its journey from Khabarovsk in the southeast region of Russia.
